Our Program

BORN2READ® is a sequential, levelled (from Level 1 through to Level 24), digital suite of readers, developed to teach children to read. Educators

As registered and qualified teachers, we understand first-hand, the time, commitment and dedication required to teach young children to read. BORN2READ® provides educators with a comprehensive experience that teaches young children to read. Parents and Carers

We strongly believe that children learn to read by engaging in the reading process, with someone by their side. Through our Family Subscription, families can access all of the digital readers, from all of the collections. Only one subscription is required, for all family members to access the readers… [button text=”Read more” link=”#” size=”medium” style=”alt-button black”] [/col] [/row] [ux_slider timer=”8000″  arrows=”true” bullets=”true” auto_slide=”true” nav_color=”light”] [ux_banner bg=”http://imageurl” height=”600px” text_color=”light” text_align=”left” text_pos=”center” text_width=”65%” text_bg=”” parallax_text=”0″ parallax=”0″ animate=”bounceInDown” effect=””]

What is BORN2READ®?

BORN2READ® is a sequential suite of levelled readers, available both digitally and in print form. This program includes over 600 levelled readers, from Level One to Level Twenty-four. It also has a collection of readers especially for Kindergarten Children (Pre-Prep children), and a Fun with Phonics collection. BORN2READ® is an explicit teaching tool to get young children reading. It provides a structure for teachers new to teaching reading or new to the year level. It is recommended that BORN2READ® is implemented for approximately 60 minutes per day in the classroom. It provides the cornerstone of the teaching of reading in the younger years. Why use BORN2READ® in your classroom?

“A million Australian children are at risk of reading failure, with serious adverse consequences for their quality of life and the progress of Australian society.” Source: Scientific Evidence for Effective Teaching of Reading by Kerry Hempenstall. Based on this scientific evidence, BORN2READ® has been developed using the five essential and interdependent components of effective, evidence-based reading instruction in school. These five keys to reading are:
    • Phonemic Awareness
    • Phonics
    • Fluency
    • Vocabulary, and
    • Comprehension.
At BORN2READ®, we like to add two more factors that we believe are also crucial to young children learning to read. They are:
    • Engagement – children need to practise the art of reading, to learn to read, and
    • Enjoyment! Reading has got to be successful and enjoyable, or young children will not want to read.

What makes BORN2READ® unique?

The BORN2READ® Readers are based on characters unique to BORN2READ®. During the writing of these readers, the characters were introduced to over three hundred young children. Only the characters that were approved by these children, were used in the BORN2READ® readers. From Level Six, the storyline runs across the eight readers in that set. Each reader is like a chapter. This encourages children to read more, as they really want to know what happens next. The stories contained in the readers, are ones that children can readily relate to, as they are often the stories retold by children when talking to our writers. Each reader is based on a set of high frequency words (sight words) as a tool to provide structure to ensure that explicit and ordered teaching of reading, could occur. The words listed inside the cover of each reader are not the only high frequency words that are contained in that text, but are the focus words for that text. As such, you will discover other high frequency words within all the readers in the BORN2READ® Collections. Does BORN2READ® assist in the teaching of writing?

Absolutely! Not only are the high frequency words chosen for BORN2READ are the ones that we see as significant to teach young children to read. They have been carefully ordered in a way that also encourages young children to write, as the early readers introduce early sentence stems. For example:
    • My name is…
    • This is my…
    • I can see a …
    • We went to…
    • At school we…
Are the Teaching Support Materials aligned with the Australian Curriculum?
Yes – BORN2READ® has a strong background in curriculum and is aligned to the current Australian Curriculum. There is a very direct, and deliberate correlation to the current curriculum documents, as outlined in the Teaching Support Documents.
